MSc thesis project proposal

Low-power Class D audio amplifier

Class-D audio amplifiers are widely used in many audio systems in mobile phone, headphones, cars and etc.

Nowadays, emerging new devices such as smart glasses require very low-power class-D audio amplifiers.

In this project, we will explore power minimization techniques in Class-D audio amplifiers, focusing on not only idle power but also dynamic power consumption.

Assignment

The following project activities are expected:

·         Comprehensive literature study in low-power class-D audio amplifiers

·         Propose new techniques to reduce idle power and dynamic power consumption

·         Transistor-level circuit design

·         A tapeout is possible

·         Thesis writing

Requirements

You are an ambitious master student with good analog circuit design knowledge and high motivation. You should have obtained good grades from the following courses: Measurement and instrumentation, Analog circuit design fundamentals, CMOS I/II, Power conversion in CMOS technology.
